Wicca Wiccans Pagans and Free Souls.. live different.. be Neopagan!

End of Civilization as we know it.

For a couple of years now, maybe even longer, but as a shadow of feeling, I have felt the need to prepare for difficult times. Not just economically, but whether I could survive physical hadship, feeling the need to put in a large garden and learn to can, stockpiling supplies, learn how to handle a gun, etc. This has always been in the back of my mind, and not really a focus of my life. However, the feeling has been getting stronger as of late. Then, this past 6 months I listened to a talk show host talk about how we have let the skills of our ancestors face into oblivion. Then I read this series that really hit home and struck a cord within me. And just last night, there was a man on the radio - can't remember his name- but he accurately predicted the fall of the Soviet Union and the crash of the market in 1987. He predicts that by 2012, we will be more concerned with putting food on the table then buying Xmas gifts. That there will be a global depression that will be the worst that civilization has ever seen. We will have food riots and take up arms.
I look at all of these as signs and have started to panic a little. Am I just paranoid, a product of Y2K, or are there others who feel as I do?

"The only thing we have to fear are out governments, and this too shall pass."
WRONG, DragonKnight, I'm sorry. Governments should ALWAYS be afraid of their people, not the other way around. We let them have power so that we can live without chaos, but we do not have the hand them any more than they need. This is why we have the 2nd Amendment; in case the government ever needs a cap in its ass. This is why we vote; to keep our rights equal.
Democracy; believe in it, contribute to it, and most important of all point out all its flaws when you see them. That's all we can do.

Thanks everybody for your input. It is true that it is best to be prepared. I don't believe in conspiracy theories, I sometimes believe that nothing will happen in my lifetime or maybe not even my kids, but like Oak Leif's "itch in the back of his mind", the feeling has been like a "humming inside of me". I am going to learn how to can! :)

Society has programmed us to believe in conspiracy theories and dogmatic predictions of the endtimes. I admit, things are looking bad, but civilization is not on the brink of total destruction and to think this is nothing less than self-indulgence. Is the current generation of humanity really so different from all the rest? I think not. We've had problems since we first stepped out of our caves and figured out how to say "Hey, how ya doin'?" to our neighbors, and since then pretty much every generation has predicted they'd live to see the endtimes.
Fear is the word of the day. The people in charge love fear because with it comes uncertainty and with uncertainty comes the desire for security. Thus, when they offer us security, we take it not realizing or caring that we're giving away a piece of ourselves as well.
If you want to ramble on about the Mayan calendar or anything of that nature, go for it. Believe what you want to believe. But there are other calendars out there, other predictions, and to quote a pagan source the Age of Aquarius doesn't begin for about another 150 years. Maybe then society will fall... but then again, maybe not. Jesus Christ -- whether he be real or imagined -- ushered in a new age without geysers of fire spewing forth death all over the planet (which is what the Mayans predicted, btw).

As the saying goes, hope for the best but plan for the worst. The Mormons teach that one should always have a year's worth of supplies on hand (not easy to do if you live in an apartment). It's always a good idea to be prepared. Even if nothing big like 2012 happens, you never know when you'll need it. Not long ago, Hurricane Ike passed through this area (a hurricane in Northern Kentucky???) and some people were without power for weeks. Better to be prepared than not.

I do. I have felt the urgency of 2012 for a long time. I have even stated stockpiling dry beans, rice, canned goods and Medicine, along with a small survival kit of matches, candles, flashlights, batteries, etc. I just this week started printing off all my Internet BOS, because I wanted to make sure it was accessible even if we have no electricity..If you are paranoid, I am to! I KNOW something BIG is going to happen in 2012, Dec. 21 seems to be the day to watch. The Myans, Aztec,Native American.....this date has significance to all these ancient people! I do not mean to alarm you, but I am being real. I am going to post a Blog on ancient Prophecies and 2012.
Do what FEELS right. Let your intuition guide you. -Be Blessed
