Wicca Official Worldwide Community of Pagans Wiccans & Neopagans

Wicca Wiccans Pagans and Free Souls.. live different.. be Neopagan!

So here I am, smoking on a bowl of illegal herbs and digging through this really wonderful site. Having been a solitary practitioner for many years and having never met more than a handful of other pagans I could take seriously, it's refreshing to see even such a small community opening up to us. So blessings to everyone, even those (likely very few) of you who voted for McCain.
Now then, on to the juicy stuff; my brother has always been prone to go on lengthy tangents about the spiritual properties of marijuana. Usually I make fun of him -- he's gets really animated, and its funny -- but sometimes I wonder if he has a point. Even if one doesn't smoke it, the plant is useful in countless ways; it can make clothing, paper, medicine, and even food much cheaper than we get these things now. Plus, as a drug it isn't deadly, and is in fact healthy in many ways.
Personally I just smoke it because it's fun, but I must admit, I do feel a deeper connection to the Earth when I'm high. Is it just me, or is there truly something special about this weed?
Also, if you agree that marijuana has strong spiritual properties, do any of you use in rituals? If so, how?

You, my friend, are living proof that marijuana laws need to be reformed. You're also living proof that the arch-typical "stoner" personified by Cheech and Chong, Jay and Silent Bob, and so many other fictional characters is just that; an artificial arch-type. The truth is that most pot smokers aren't lazy, incompetent, or otherwise "stupid" the way the media would like to portray us. We're just normal people who choose something far lighter than say, alcohol to get our rocks off.
The fact that marijuana is illegal is no small deal, either. It's a big deal. Every study ever conducted has unequivocally proven that marijuana is vastly less harmful than alcohol, yet the government still chooses to criminalize people for using it. That's wrong.
What's more, clinical studies have unequivocally proven that marijuana is a useful tool for healing a variety of ailments. Among these include pain and yes, even depression. Like you pointed out, there are no long term effects of marijuana used to treat these conditions, and the vast majority of legal drugs used today can hardly say the same. After all, with the proper dosage even aspirin can be lethal. Yet despite all the real live people experiencing pain and sickness that marijuana can treat, it remains illegal. That's REALLY wrong.
So to everyone reading this; vote. Don't give me any of that bullshit about not liking any available candidates, because there's a shit-ton of other important things to vote on. Remember all that crap they told us when we were kids about "one person making all the difference"? Turns out it wasn't crap, so get on top of things.
I'm here to say that I feel that cannabis(marijuana) is definately a spiritual plant.
I also believe that peyote, and mushrooms are sacred and spiritual.

I also greatly agree with JackFlash.
i used to be a daily smoker, but i found it only made me more depressed. now i only smoke it to fall asleep- just a hit or two works fine for me. it helps alot to calm my mind down. i am an insomiac. it is the only thing that has worked for me so far, without me waking up like a zombie the next day. occationally, i have used to to meditate, it brings me into a different kind of meditation- a more powerful one. but i agree with Phaedre. i dont like to use it every time because i want to reach it on my own and i get stronger that way. i have given it as an offering several times, or burned it as an incense- just a little- for divination purposes.
