I'm working through this book.. .it's not a cover to cover read, but more like a compilation of myths with historical and other background for each. So you pick it up, read about one, and save more for later.
What I really like is that this is a compilation of myths and stories about the wild woman archetype, so there is a lot of reference to womens souls and her connection with her own soul. Very spiritual in that way. Connections to nature and animals, especially the wolf. Beautiful in this regard. Sings for me.
We use this in a woman's spirituality class I am taking, in conjunction with many more books. I have found that it is a wonderful reference, and agree that it is a bit dense for cover to cover reading. I found the story of the Baba Yaga especially intrigueing in regards to re-discovering intution and her anlysis of myth is very well grounded and understanding. I hope you enjoy it!
