Spring is fighting her way in...this is a photo I did last year to celebrate Spring...
Would love to hear about your rituals, meditations, general practices to usher in the beautiful springtime, primavera.....
For me, my past was always a celebration of Easter since my parents were practicing Catholocism at the time. But underneath that was always a truer celebration of Spring, the animals and flowers and joyousness at the re-birth of Nature. My family continues to celebrate with non-Easter but Eastery sentiments... chocolates, flowers, spring images and if they are energetic - egg ornamentation. I used to LOVE the egg decorating... As a Neopagan adult, Spring is much more an inner celebration and an outward devotion. I am so full of gratitude to witness the beauty of Nature in Springtime, that my heart sings and my eyes sparkle with that Joy....
Every year my family and I usher in Spring with Easter Egg decorating, egg hunts, and a huge family picnic. Then later on the same night I light a white candle and watch it burn down while all around me the essence of nature fills me with pure joy. After the candle burns out I thank the Mother for renewing life once again.
Sy - Thanks for this... your memories bring back more of my own. My father and I would play hide and seek with the colored eggs many times in a day... It turned into a "whodunnit" of the best egg hiding!! I won the most fantastic egg hiding spot. It killed the contest tho, becuz nothing after that could reach such a high peak!! I have to talk to my Dad about that soon!!!
When I had my house I celebrated the spring in earnest. I tilled up my gardens... and started my plantings outside as soon as the earth warmed. Since I live in the "land of frozen people" I started growing seedlings indoors. I also clean and get ready for the warmer winds. Every night I would sit outside in my screened in porch and offer up praises to the Goddess for bringing life back to the earth.
That has been missing since I have moved to an apt. I still haven't found something to replace it. Although my neighbor is planning on tilling up soil in his yard for a garden this year and offered to let me help! YAY. I can hardly wait to get my hands into the soil again!!!!
Growing up, Easter meant the resurrection of Jesus Christ. there was a sunrise service at my church, followed by an easter program.
Now that I'm all grown up, I still celebrate Easter this way, but I plan on welcoming the spirit of spring along with it. I will be thankful for being able to see the newness around me. I will also be trying to clean and enjoy the fresh air.
