Wicca Official Worldwide Community of Pagans Wiccans & Neopagans

Wicca Wiccans Pagans and Free Souls.. live different.. be Neopagan!

I read somewhere that just because you choose a Pagan path, it doesn't mean you can call yourself Pagan, Wiccan, etc. Not at the beginning anyway.

So, when CAN you call yourself that (Wiccan, Pagan, etc.)?

In my opinion, if you revere nature, that makes you Pagan. If you study a religion, you are a student of what you study. If you practice with the knowledge you collect, You are -----------------( insert path). Some sources say that to be considered a certain label, like Wiccan, you need to have dedicated and followed tradition (sabbats) for 1 year and a day. This is also how long your study group should practice together before calling it a Coven.
If you choose a Pagan path, you are a Pagan. If you wish to choose to follow a specific path, those following that path may have a period that you must go through or things you must do to be identified as a follower. But, Pagan is not a specific religion. It is a general term describing a person with a certain set of beliefs. I feel that whatever path you follow, if you accept it in your being, then it is what you are. No amount of time or set of accomplishments can change what you are inside. If you believe as a Pagan, then you are one.
When you believe yourself to be one.
I prefer to define myself by my own studies, conversations, and from what I have learned in workshops, from festivals, etc. From that I have found the test of time, practice (ritual and otherwise) ,and intent to be my most important variables. A year and a day, a self dedication, and a real will to deepen personal awareness through the witches journey (the journey within) all seem critical aspects. Yet, I have met many people in the craft, traditional family witches, and some solitaries that have virtually never been in contact with others. Some of these folks are the most crafty people I have encountered.
When can one call themselves a pagan, a witch, or a dipsy doodle ? When with a group follow the rule, "When in Rome do as the Romans do? But when solitare, "Do as it pleases you." Just be very careful what you ask for.
Bright Blessings,
Wolfie
i agree, if someone know's what they want and believe in what they are then they SHOULD call themselves just that..i have a encyclopdeia on magic & witchcraft {BY SUSAN GREEENWOOD} & no where in there does it mention about how we came too be...other word's how that person choose's their religion,it's just how u choose too follow..

Hi Cassandra,
I don't believe in many rules regarding such a thing. In Wicca there's only one Rule 'If it harms none, do what you will' I think it applies here. When I stepped on the Path, I decided not to do any magic at first, but study it for a year and a day. Then I was going to find my magic name and call myself a witch.
I attempted, with succes (:-) my first magic 6 months later, and haven't found my magic name (yet).
Flexibility is of the essence.
It was strange to use the word 'witch' at first, so I said I follow Nature Religion.
Ever since I read about Solitary Hedgewitches, I knew where I belonged and never looked back. In short, I think anyone who wants to call themselves Pagan or Wiccan or whatever, should do so if they please. I'd be curious to hear other views.....

You can call yourself anything you want, after all look how many people call themselves Christian..??? The whole truth is what you DO with your path and what it means to you...don't get to hung up on labels and degrees...they are man made...
It takes three years Regression expression, and the road ahead. or astrology, herbology, and then alchemy
If you want to be technical,Paganism refers to any other Religion outside of Christianity, & I consider myself the first Unorthodox Pagan simply cause my views don't always mesh with others.

trying to find myself thanks i would harm noone beleive in occult experiences feel guilty about having christianity doubts cleo love nature animals people children cleo
I didn't call myself anything until I started reading about Wicca. Then further studied some info on Druidism. I finally realized that I am just pagan. Some call it eclectic pagan. I go with the flow that the Goddess leads. I know for some that there has to be strict rules on what you can call yourself and when. I personally "don't do" rules as regards to my beliefs. I was Christian for the 1st half of my life... and had enough rules to last 3 lifetimes The 2nd half of my life I am Pagan... and have no rules other than no harm. The Goddess speaks to me when I need to be guided... or I ask for guidance. I don't have a certain way I do things or in any specific order. I am not careless... I just follow a rather loose path. I consider myself Pagan... but no other title .. I use "witch" only when it is going to get a rise from someone. (I have a rather warped sense of humor lol)
Anyone can be a Pagan. To be a Witch, takes a year and a day. There are reasons for that. End of story
