Recently alot of people have been getting their feathers in a ruffle about a sign that was put up by an athiest organization inside a certain city hall. Personaly i have read it and i think that it could have been worded alot more respectfully. The sign reads "At this season of the winter solstice may reason prevail.
There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world.
Religion is but myth and supersition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."
I would just like to hear other's opinions on the subject.
I think it is great that we are actually seeing tolerance in the govt. even if it is a small dose. I also think that the athiests who put up the sign should thing of this as an opportunity to show the govt. not to fear or be angry at other religions. Tthat won't happen when the sign is worded so disrespectfully toward any religion. As religious minorities we need to repressent a good image and not take the road of the "religious right" and say definatly that we are the only ones right. That should not be the way we as religious minorities should treat such a delicate situation as this.
I actually think that people that put up signs like that are a bit too pushy about getting the govt to tolerate them. If you were to put that type of thing on my "house" I wouldn't be inclined to tolerate but i would be angry with that person/goup. It's like a situation i was recently in. I was told that I would have my ass beat if i didn't do exactly what they wanted me to do for christmas. That made me want nothing to do with the person and their family. It almost cost me my marriage, cause it was my husband's sister. Pushing something on some one doesn't make them want to tolerate, but makes them scared or angry. That's just my opinion. But I keep my religion to myself around here. If some one asks, I'll tell them, but i don't push it on any one. putting that sort of thing on govt property makes them think that our religion is some sort of "cult". They get scared and think that these people will go to any lengths to take whatever power they wish. They start thinking we are more dangerous than anything. I don't think "tagging" is a good way to get a messege across. A petition, maybe, but not vandalizing. Blessed be.
Henry Ford stated, "If you think you can, or if you think you can't, either way, you're right."
Each person has a Will. Yes I agree that the wording does change the perception of the meaning of WHY they are the way they are..it seems as if it were a shot to the Pagan community instead of all types of religion I am CERTAIN to say that with the stories and understanding of the Days of Olde, we see why it is important to keep history alive..
As a Wiccan, I live in the belief of using Nature for balance, grounding, and calling for assistance when i desire to use it in a way that has to be settled for just myself..(or for someone in dire need) . I believe in Myth, Superstition, Angels..hell is what you make things in your life/pathway to walk.
