Many are confused about what love is. It has so many definitions in this, our modern era and a thousand incarnations that people give up on it on a literal level not to mention on the emotional and spiritual level as well. We all, all of us have been indoctrinated by parental figures, peers, society and the many expectations on what love should mean to us. Right down to what types of loves are acceptable and what types of loves aren’t. Who we should love and who should not. How we give and receive love and how we cannot. In this modern era we have limited the avenues love may find us. We settle for what we have been told is acceptable by everyone’s standards but our own.

I am sure we have at one point in time on our lives have been told that love without financial security, wealth and possessions cannot last. I am sure we have been told that we need to seek out those types of people that mirror our class, status, race and / or popularity. I am sure we have been trained to seek out and only see those people who are desirable to others. This is what we; all of us have been trained to do. We ignore our attractions and our hearts for what is deemed appropriate for us.

Love is not appropriate. There is no strategy that comes along with it. It is the quintessential emotion that makes us more than just animals. Love is the emotion that makes us divine and capable of the kindest actions of self sacrifice and nobility. In a world of Prenuptial Contracts, Child Custody, Divorce, child support, Domestic violence and infidelity these are the results of the modern era’s redefining of love. Attraction to someone’s wealth and the possibility of living well with that person is not love. It is emotional convenience and putting a price on your emotions as well as pricing another’s emotions with economic/material value. Sex, companionship and greed are not components of love. Marrying someone who can save you from a country where you have no future or someone who offers you a better life. Is not love. Gratitude, fear and salvation though beautiful sentiments are not love. These emotions age and once they fall under the sway of time they become resentment, hate, guilt, anger and hurt.

I was once told that marriage was like a business. It is an agreement between to people who choose to merge and consolidate forces for survival purposes as well as to make a family and build a future. What’s wrong with this statement? It seems sound and valid. Right? Nothing is wrong with this statement. It is the modern view of what love is. But in the above statement the word love not once is mentioned. Love is mutual attraction, friendship, companionship, intimacy, respect, validation and reciprocation, sexual communion and the establishing of a union. It is more than a business arrangement or agreement. Contacts can be broken. Businesses fall apart and business partners share documents and paper not each other’s hearts, bodies and souls together. Businesses cannot create families or any type of life beyond the profits they hoard. Love has no room for the pragmatic. Love in It’s truest form has always been unconditional, innocent and pure no matter who feels it.

Sometimes love lasts forever and sometimes it doesn’t but it is always true. You know true love when you would sacrifice your world, your reality your security and all that you know for the person you have chosen to give your heart too. Love is also trying if at all possible NOT to place the person you love in that position in the first place too. True love is when you would die for the person who has your heart. It also means you would live for them person you love even when life itself is seemingly insurmountable. Being in true love means that you are ready in your heart to make the sacrifice that you will share your body with NO ONE except the person you have chosen to be your forever. Unconditional love means no matter what the world, heaven or hell or the people in between say about it, this is where you your heart and soul is. It is a constant whether you or your love are rich or poor, sick or healthy, whether they are a nobody or somebody, whether it’s you and them against an unkind and oppositional world, you stand true with them constant and sure as the sea of time. This is love. This is the power of the empress. Love is not strategy or business. Love is not convenience or sex. Love is not protean or common. Love is timeless, a voluntary sacrifice, divine and sacred. It is the most defining emotion you can ever feel and must be nurtured as a garden must be tended too. Love is like having Eden in your heart.
