Family, Friends and Familiars

A Familiar. What is family that is not human? Those who know you, and accept and understand as you sacrifice for them.  One Familiar in my house is difficult to photograph so her image cannot be displayed. She is a  Beta named Ryn. I found her in the standard pet shop setting, she was in a small plastic cup, the Betas stacked on top of each other, she was near the bottom of the stack. I saw her as one of the disposable, not likely to be chosen compared to the more colorful ones available. I chose her and brought her home. I gave her a much larger environment with water plants which they need to thrive. She has been with me for two years now. I keep her bowl very near my ritual space. Unlike some Wiccan who say a blessing should not be cast with animals nearby, I believe it is the opposite, I believe my Familiar brings  a great deal of pure living energy to any blessing I may cast. We know each other, Ryn and I do, not that I am meeker that she, but she responds to me and my presence. Ryn is a Familiar through caring and attentiveness.
