My boyfriend led me on a guided meditation the other night so that I might see who my Goddess was. I had been trying to figure out just who called to me but was unable to hear her. So I went on this journey to seek her out.
I started on the beach at sunset. I stood close to the waters edge, next to me a fire burned in a fire pit. I could smell the salt and the burning wood. I was at peace here with the warm sand beneath my bare feet. As I watched the waves lap at the beach She came. She stepped from the water dripping yet she herself was not wet. She had dark hair, somewhere between dark brown and black. In her hair she wore a headdress of cowrey shells and sea pearls that kind of draped in three layers before meeting at the center of her forehead in a teardrop shaped pearl. The gown she wore seemed to flow around her like water and was the color of the sky just after sunset, that deep blue purple of the falling night. It flowed in layers of the blue with white. She wore a single pearl around her neck suspended on a thin silver chain. Her pearl shown brightly on her deep olive skin.
I knew at once who she was. Yemaya, Mother of Pearls, Mother Ocean, Stella Maris (Star of the Sea), Yeyé Omo Eja, which means Mother Whose Children Are the Fish, Mother of Dreams, Mother of Water, Mother of All. She reached out her hands to me and without hesitating I ran into her arms. She held me close to her heart and I felt as if I was four again sitting safely in my mothers arms. I cried then and she caught each tear on her finger and whispered soothing words.
I was happy to have found her. Happy to be at peace and at home with my Goddess.
