We continue our celebration of Autumn as we look at some of the season's important associations.
Water is one of the elements in ancient Greek philosophy, and in Occult circles it's associated with the Western Quarter of the Circle, and with the season of Autumn. So we'll look at how and why Water got associated with the Autumn as we tie in some of their similar Magickal Properties.
Then we'll take a walk into an Autumn Garden with Ellen Dugan, well known herbalist and…

Let's create Magick through Masking!
If you're going a Halloween party, what will you GO AS? We all wear masks, although the extent to which we layer ourselves or are aware of them varies greatly.
Masks are a familiar and vivid element in many folk and traditional pageants, ceremonies, rituals and festivals, and are often of an ancient origin.
One reason for wearing a mask is to pretend to be someone or something else. The mask can be a kind of…
ContinueThis week here on The Spiral Dance, let's look skyward and see what's up there.
Every season brings different views of the Heavens, and Autumn is no different. And, the Stars of Autumn bring their own stories and myths. So to start this week, I have a poem written back in 1819 by the English Romantic poet, John Keats. In his poem, "To Autumn" he captures the feeling and spirit of this season.
Then we'll talk a bit about Astronomy itself, and one view of how…

As we go into the dark part of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, many Pagans “go inward” and do internal work with Self and Gods. We get ready to honor our Ancestors at Samhain (if we are Wiccan or “Wiccish”) and to pay attention to the…

NONE OF THE FOLLOWING LINKS CARRY VIRUSES, BUT IT’S YOUR CHOICE, AND USE AT YOUR OWN CAUTION WITH THE “FREE MAGIC(K) SPELLS” PROMISE. Well, it’s best to cast spells for yourself. And remember, some may say they’re casting a, and I quote, “real spell that works like magic for free,” but they might charge you later OR, if they don’t, it might not work. Give it a try, and be careful. And remember, if they say magic and not…

It was asked what pagan people have when it comes to what is real and valid in our places of faith. We don't have institutionalized religion that is also of big business, no. We don't have two rather 'unholy' days where the God is celebrated mostly devoid of the Goddess. But we do have a space of ancient spiritual history that pre dates Christianity;one is found with the native people of North America who knew Source through the natural world, Shamans and others of spirit knew animals as a…

Understanding the Meaning of the Degrees as More than Milestones
I have had the pleasure of talking with many, many Wiccans of all stripes, as well as with Neo-Pagans with various sorts of "wiccishness" to their practices and paths. It's true that not every Traditional Wiccan is going to agree with me on my interpretation of the three…

In selecting an Athame (AH-thah-may, or in some Traditions, ah-THAH-may), there are some important considerations to take into account before selecting your tool.
Tradition: Many Traditions have entitlement requirements for certain tools. If you are training in a Tradition that requires that you take…

This is an excerpt of a paper I wrote when I was working toward initiation in my home coven of Raven Star.
According to the Clannada na Gadelica, a Gaelic culture education organization, there is little scholarly evidence as to which woods are the nine…

Yesterday I attempted to cast a sigil spell for me and my lover. Lets just say it back fired... badly for me. There were no problems with him, in fact he never knew I had caste it. I keep my rituals very private due to past relationship problems when they do find out about my practices. He knows I am pagan he just never sees my rituals.
I am romantically involved with a good friend of mine (we even live together and have established a life), but the romance in bed has never been…
