I don't know that I need to cleanse after each reading I just do, it's a part of my ritual. My aunt taught me to purify with fire. I always light a candle at the beginning of my reading for protection. This will also be the candle I use for the purification. I run the cards over the fire before the reading to charge and protect them. Then at the end of the reading I pass them over again and in my minds eye I see all the negative energy being burned away and carried up and away from the cards. I think this also helps clear my own mind of negativity I may have picked up from the reading.
As for purification as a whole I purify to clear my mind so that I don't taint my ritual with negativity from everyday life. I use fire cause I've always been drawn to it (a Sagittarius drawn to fire Never).Fire is the eternal reset button. From carbon we are made and to carbon we will return, Fire returns everything to carbon so it can be reborn again as something new. Unlike the other elements that just wash the negative away fire will remake the negative into a neutral that can then become a positive. I hope that makes sense.

Interesting that you use fire for purification. It looks like I am about to learn something. Can you explain the concept why you would need to clear the cards after each reading. Why do you use fire? That one has me baffled. Explain the concept of fire purification in general and not just for cards. Sorry for all the questions but my mind is running through a lot of magick that I have learned over the years and this is a new one to me. ding! ding! ding! Alchemy uses fire for purification. Please share your wisdom with me.

When I read for some one else I usually shuffle the deck. Then I ask them to pick a card any card. This card is the one I use as the Significator. If the person is into the reading and focused I have them shuffle the deck. If they seem easily distracted or preoccupied I shuffle. I always deal and turn the cards over. When the reading is over and the cards don't need to sit I reshuffle and cleanse.

I always clear my cards but I usually use fire. I run the cards over a flame usually three times. It doesn't harm the deck I obviously don't burn it :)

Rebecca, do you clear your cards after you do a reading for someone else? Do you let them suffle the cards or do you suffle the deck? I have seen it both ways. I would think a clearing would be in order if you had someone else's vibrations on the cards. When I did readings for someone else. I didn't clear them becausea they where one after another and they were not for me. That deck I didn't use for my personal readings. I would clean myself big time after readings for others. People carry a lot of bad vibrations with them. I feel sorry for them but can not change their Karma. Love to all!

Most cleanings are done with the Air or Earth element. If you don't let anyone touch your cards and you are centered when you use them. I don't see a need to clean your cards. I like my cards to carry my vibrations with them so they will stay attuned to me. When needed, I will bath them in full moon light to be blessed and reattuned to the goddess enery. If a vamp touched them then that would be a major freak out for me and I would burn the deck after the yelling and screaming was over. If I did an Air cleaning it would be with sage. You got me on the word "miasma". I had to look that one up. Good job! Your commit was not spacey. I understood what you were talking about. The more you talk about magick the more you understand your beliefs and values. Your feelings will change as you mature in the craft. Cause and effect is at work. Love

I do read for myself sometimes. Although I'd rather have a friend read for me I feel I get more out of the reading if I have someone else's point of view too. I know what you mean about pressure. I one read for a friend of mine. The cards were begging me to read for him. He listened to absolutely nothing that I said and later said the reading was wrong because it didn;t answer his exact question.

The invert definitions add a lot to some readings. With my main deck I don't use inverts because it is not designed for invert readings. I will be using inverts with the new deck because they are designed to be read that way. Twice the programing time but time well spent. The new deck would not work well for down and dirty tarot reads or divination readings. They are design for full blown reads with all the glitter. Rebecca will get great usage out of them because of her reading for others. Diana kicked my ass this month. I don't get along with her when she is full. Hard to program the cards you know. Good reads to all.

Rebecca, I did readings for people many years ago. I never liked doing reading, heeling or magick for others. Oh my goddess what pressure. I had this lady one time tell me. She did not like the reading and wanted me to change the outcome. What can you say. I am impressed that you are able to perform readings for others that take a lot of talent. Do you read for yourself?

Christine, I am impressed. Do you set the quarters in the circle? You are performing a nice advance reading mostly reserved for spell working. If you bring in a mate in the circle. You can do relationship reading that will blow your socks off or their's if you like. Know thy circle and you will know thyself. Be careful of doing relationship reading in a circle there is no place to hide from the cards. Your mate will know you as you. Good reading.
