General idea for this forum...

Hi Newbies and Advisors!

So glad you made it here. Thanks for joining both this group and the community. Ask for what you are seeking and another might help you find it.
Feel free to start a discussion or post comments on the wall (like many so far, thanks)...
That's the idea anyway!
This group is very loosely administered... It's more a point of connection for new community members looking to meet others. New members may or may not be new to the concept of Paganism etc.

Express yourself!

Hugs,
Rebecca

spirits can live anywhere Gary and can be a royal pain if crossed.  Best to let them be unless they get vindictive and nasty.  If they are tampered with they can get angry and it snot easy to get rid of them then.

Hi, all!

Please feel free to share this announcement with interested friends:

Waxing Moon Circle's new Wicca 101 class begins in Santa Clara on Sunday, May 19.

The class will meet at 1:00 pm on the first and third Sundays of each month in Santa Clara and will last for approximately a year and a day.  Enrollment is limited.

This class will cover both Wicca as a whole, and also the Waxing Moon Circle approach to practice.  It will include traditional ethics and lore, related academic topics, and exercises.  There will be some discussion of other Pagan and Wiccan paths--partly for context, and partly for the benefit of students who are interested in studying them further.

There is no money being charged (though donations will be accepted to help cover costs of photocopying).  Instead, as is the custom in traditional Wicca, students will help with class/coven/community-related projects and activities.  These projects will typically average less than an hour per class meeting.

Homework will be assigned at each session.  Students should plan to attend every class session and do all of the homework, which will consist, variously, of reading, research, papers, projects, and practice.  Everyone will also participate in rituals outside of class time, such as community Sabbats with South Bay Circles, Esbats with Waxing Moon Circle.  Many varied opportunities for ritual will be available, to accommodate students' different personal schedules.

The class will be taught by two elders of Waxing Moon Circle, Valerie Voigt and Ivan Richmond, who, between them, have approximately 50 years of experience.  They will be assisted by WMC initiates and senior students.  The class will culminate in presentation of a community Sabbat ritual.

Class day schedule:

1:00:  Gather for tea and socializing.

1:30: Class begins.  First class will start with orientation and a preliminary assessment exam;  all remaining classes will start with homework quiz and discussion of the homework.

6:00:  Class dismissal time.

Please note:  it is possible to flunk out of this class!  There will be a short quiz at the beginning of each class meeting.  Anyone who slows the class down by repeated failure to be prepared will be asked to leave.  Please register for this class only if you are committed to doing all the work.  Homework will, for most people, take between 3 and 7 hours a week.

All are expected to use the Internet and/or libraries as part of their studies, but not all books are available in libraries.  Students will provide their own books.  We have an open collection of study links which can provide a useful starting point:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WaxingMoonCircle/links

Please have your lunch before arriving for class.

Please bring:

A journal-type notebook.  A regular school notebook is fine.

A three-ring binder (you will need this for handouts and other materials)

Additional writing materials (notebook and pen/cil, tablet, or laptop)

For questions, or if interested in enrollment, please message me here, or email valerie_voigt@yahoo.com or irichmond@yahoo.com .
