Scott Cunningham- For or Against???

I've read a couple of his books, but it was a few years ago so don't really remember much. His Guide for the Solitary Practitionaer was one of them. As I recall, I found them entertaining and informative. Most people I heard talk about him had nothing but good things to say. I'd be interested in hearing what people have against him too.

While I find his books very simplistic for someone who has been doing their research and practicing for a long time, I think they are wonderful books for beginners, letting them know just what Wicca is not. Other books that are wonderful for beginning are Begining Wicca, Wicca for Dummies, Wicca for Idiots, (don't let the titles bother you-they are excellent books), and anything by Dorothy Morrison.

I like him also. His books are easy to follow and I do like his views on reincarnation, especially around samhain. I'm not one to call up those who have passed on and Cunningham has some good advice about how to honor them without disturbing while they rest behind the veil.

Scott was a master of creating easy-to-comprehend magickal systems and lessons for anyone from a Dedicant to a Priest/ess. I recommend his books to all my students!

I love that Scott's books were easy to read and get you started. When anyone asks me where to start, I always tell them to start with the Solitaty Guides. He takes the confusion out of whatever he is writing about, I have read a great many books, Scott's were some the easiest to follow. I do not practice Wicca, yet still found his gook to he very helpful and informative.

He is the best for beginners, and died before some of his books were published, I bet I have a dozen or more written by him, easy to read, and not boring.

I find him simple and not deep, but useful for beginners.

I am defintly for him. He was a no nonsense type of writer and to the point I never thought of him as dull boring or trite as well as simple.

While I've heard many complain he was to simplistic and too generic, I've always found him to strike a needed balance quite well. Rather than trying to lead you one particular direction, Scott usually just presented the basic information for you to decide how to use it and incorporate it into a path of your own choosing rather than just follow what he laid out before you. As an eclectic I've found his information invaluable rather than restricting as some authors can be.

I thoroughly enjoyed Cunningham's Wicca: a Guide for the Solitary Practitioner. Easy to read and understand. I refer to this book frequently in my own Craft. The "Ritual of Gestures" from his BoS at the back of the book is priceless! Highly recommended.

I too love Scott Cunningham, I do own his books and re-read them often. He makes perfect sense. I have read also all of GB Gardner's books & of course Doreen Valiente's books,  Janet Farrar, Raymond Buckland, Eliphas Levis, Sybil Leek, not a great fan of hers. She was too out there, a bit like Gerald, they both liked the limelights too much.  I have many books, some english some written in french.  I am partial to Scott's books. Why ? easy to understand, no nonsense great for beginners.
