Because they are afraid of that which they are ignorant of and are not willing to educate themselves on what it means to be Wiccan. I don't believe that all Christians are this way, but those that are this way will never change. Personally I do not let it bother me because I am a well grounded Wiccan and I know what is inside of me and what I am is not bad. I walk in the Light and Love of a higher power and Christians nor any other that walks this life can shake me from my beliefs and practices. That is all.....

I agree here with Justin, but also don't forget ignorance. Most people have no idea what others faiths are founded on. Sadly most people are willfully ignorant and refuse to understand any truth but there own.

I was raised hardcore Christian by two very fanatical parents. I have since put myself through the ringer trying to convert from Christianity to Wicca and it's definitely been a much harder journey than I anticipated. The reason being is fear. Christianity's secret weapon has always been and always will be fear. My parents beat the shit out of my mentality by raising me to believe that any 'straying off the beaten path' was disconnecting yourself from God and you just better hope that He take you back. Christians have been taught to hate Wicca because you'll find the people who follow the Christian faith are just simply not comfortable with being in control of their own actions. They must have something on which to blame their problems. "I'm sorry. The devil made me do it", is so much easier that claiming your own shit. Wiccans demonstrate life as being God, never disconnected. God is in everything. God IS everything. Most Christians may feel they need a separate God looking down on them from Heaven to give them a reason to do anything good. After all, they're being watched! lol

Oh, and just a side note to Shadowfox. Our goal in life should never be to convince others that we are right or that they're wrong. We each walk a separate path in this life, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. The current world population is about 6 billion. So with that being said, they're are approx. 6 billion Gods waiting on the other side. One for each of us. :-) As long as your beliefs allow you to see, touch, hear and taste God in a way that resonates with you and you cause no harm to others, then you are following the right path. That goes for Christians as well. Blessed Be.
you must first understand 2 things, that the Christian Faith is base of FEAR, fear of their God, fear of sin fear, of going to hell, fear of being or doing anything not acceptable or wrong. it is this fear that make them lable anyone different as a sinner.Their teaching teach that all men are sinner and must be born again or saved, which in fact state that their God screwed up in his creating of man in the first place and man must correct it by being saved.. i feel that the only thing i need saving from is the Christian. The second thing to understand is that their whole religion system was design to control the mass or hold control over the people. the root word of Religion,.. ligion which means to bind or to hold,.. Re means back. so RELIGION therfore means to hold Back or bind back.... hold back the people from thinking for themselve or bind back them all to thinking the same thoughts. i believe sometime good people do bad/stupid things but for it to be a SIN you must have religion. there is also the fact that all Christian Doctrine is base of Faith and belief,.. not KNOWLEDGE, but the hopes that it may or may not be correct or true. you have chosen your path because you know it right, it fits you, you can see it and feel it. you know the outcome, you believe with knowledge. i'd also like to say that most if not all Christian or not Christ-like, Jesus taught acceptance and tolerance. he taught love for each other and that God was the Father of all mankind although he for got to mention the mother of all mankind. he also taught against judgement,.. in his Sermon on the mound he said(matt 7:1) judge not that ye be not judge. he also said (matt5:11) Blessed are ye, when men persecute you and say all manner of evil against you Falsely for my (jesus) sake. In (John 5:22) Jesus says The Father(God) judge no man. if SIN is an offense against God,.. then any Christain passing judgement on you is in fact comitting a SIN.
why do they fear anything new, old or different. they are taught to,their religion leader know our truth and fear losing their chuchgoers to the truth. anything outside their BOX is to be fear, anything outside of their teaching is to be a SIN. Jesus himself summed it up in (Matt 15;8&9) when he said. they draw near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lip. but their hearts are far from me. in vain they teach for doctrine the commandment of men.
at this point i should say i have never been a christian and have only been to church a few times as a child. i grew up with a half native american grandmother and a stepfather from the Islands. i was born to be who i am. i am pagan and proud of it, i am a child of Mama Earth, i am a natureboy and a tree hugger, i am a spirit born in the form of a man, i am a man of hue or hu-man. if it is a sin to honor nature, love life, and live in peace, or to see all things as one and connected, to live like all life matter. to care for the Earth and have a kinship with all my follow men amd woman... oh well.., let he who is without my sins get hit with the stone first...! WE have the power to define who and what we are. let no one define you or who you are. for to do so, to give anyone the power over who you are, is your only SIN

because they themselves dont know the very origin of thier belief. They say and yell christanity without ever researching it.
becouse they are so close minded and think that their way is the only way. or should i say that it is fed into their minds at such a young age when they don't have a choice that to them there is no other way of thinking
my family are all serious christians, and they think wicca is evil because they think its the devils work... my step dad tells me on a daily basis that im going to be eternally damned.

i believe the main reason christians and chatholics are so against wicca is that people are afraid of things they dont understand. and a lot of people just dont understand wicca.
I think part of that comes from the catholics belief of if you don't go to church and worship god in this way then your in trouble.so i got my own statement before catholics and christians there were other religions and according to the mainstream religions everyone was lost and without god.that is hoohaa god is in nature and he is nature there are just a bunch of names for him.me i am a Celtic christian and i am interested in shamanism.there is no true answer except the one we find within ourselves.the bible is a book, they say it was written by god but it was written by man.but it is a deascent book.I say don't disrespect anyones religion take what you can from it and learn.
*smile* Because they don't see them or anyone else as the creators we were designed to be. We all have a measure of that Power, but most fail or refuse to see it, let alone use it.
I understand your confusion and concern totally. I think that it is important to understand the history of Christianity in order to understand the answer to this question. The Abrahamic tradition was originally extremely pagan with many pagan rituals and beliefs. When Moses came around he brought Abrahams decendents together and used the teachings and trainings and beliefs he gained in egypt and structured the religion claiming God had told him all these things. At the same time he condemned any other culture that was not theirs. Later in history Abrahams decendents became the slaves of Babylon. Now Babylon had this children's story similar to the modern day boogy man for the same use (to manipulate the kids) only they called him Satan. And he had devils. Well Abrahams decendants started beleiving in this concept and melded it together with their religious system already put in place by the plagerizing Moses. And again later in history, after the Catholic Church was formed, there were many crusades where christian wariors went to other lands and told people to either convert or die. Much like the Necromongers in the movie "Chronicals of Ridick". Well the natives didn't give up their gods so easily nor their rituals. So the Catholic monks devised a plan. They named their Gods and Goddesses as witches and devils and cast them out of the lands and let them keep their rituals in honor of saints and Jesus as a replacement for their Gods and Goddesses. And that doctrine that our Gods and Goddesses are just demons and devils still hold to this day in the christian comunity and so they believe that we are not worshiping our Gods and Goddesses. They believe that we are worshiping demons and devils. And to them that is a sin.
you must also remember that sin and the Devil only exist in the Christian/Judea faith. all other culture though they believe in demons and evil spirit and some used dark magick. they did not believe in a all powerful being called the Devil. the word satan originally meant adversary. let us not get caught up with who is wrong or right just accept that we are all different and allow each to be who and what we are.
it should be a sin to hate and to hate because of sin

That just about sums it up!
I'm sure that my grandmother (though I love her dearly) would say that homosexuals, buddhists and murderers are all in the same catagory and thus, all going to hell.
Well, of course their going to hell, they aren't "Christians".

Alot of them also grew up and use the King James version of the bible which uses the "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" and haven't researched it to know thats not what the actual passage was to read.

Plus they have been taught that paganism is just something new so we're all a cult. *snickers*

I have been told that since my former husband was part jewish, and that I have given permission to my former father in law that if he wishes I would be honored that he impart to my daughter knowledge of the jewish faith so even if she doesn't choose it...at least she knows her hertage...well I was told that I was condemming emily to hell.

I turned to the coworker and said, "then if all my nonchristian friends are going to (in your mind) "hell" and my daughter is too. I'd rather join with them then spend an eternity with you." heh...

I believe that exposing my daughter to as many faiths as possible will help her grow into a more open person than I will ever hope to be.
