Mostly because they believe that Wiccans are doing the Devil's work and are oblivious to it. Also, they believe that you must accept Jesus Christ as your personal Savior - and obviously most Wiccans aren't doing that.
The bible is against witchcraft and that its the devil's work, and a lot of christians feel that if it's not Jesus its the devil.
That is what I wonder also. They think Wicca is evil. Plus in the bible it says that witchcraft of any kind (spells, tarot, having visions, etc.) is from the devil. I just think that they don't know how to accept something that is different and that they don't understand.
I was raised hardcore Christian by two very fanatical parents. I have since put myself through the ringer trying to convert from Christianity to Wicca and it's definitely been a much harder journey than I anticipated. The reason being is fear. Christianity's secret weapon has always been and always will be fear. My parents beat the shit out of my mentality by raising me to believe that any 'straying off the beaten path' was disconnecting yourself from God and you just better hope that He take you back. Christians have been taught to hate Wicca because you'll find the people who follow the Christian faith are just simply not comfortable with being in control of their own actions. They must have something on which to blame their problems. "I'm sorry. The devil made me do it", is so much easier that claiming your own shit. Wiccans demonstrate life as being God, never disconnected. God is in everything. God IS everything. Most Christians may feel they need a separate God looking down on them from Heaven to give them a reason to do anything good. After all, they're being watched! lol

Oh, and just a side note to Shadowfox. Our goal in life should never be to convince others that we are right or that they're wrong. We each walk a separate path in this life, physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. The current world population is about 6 billion. So with that being said, they're are approx. 6 billion Gods waiting on the other side. One for each of us. :-) As long as your beliefs allow you to see, touch, hear and taste God in a way that resonates with you and you cause no harm to others, then you are following the right path. That goes for Christians as well. Blessed Be.
I went to Catholic school for 9 years and was raised by two Catholic parents. I have also had dealings with southern hole in the wall churches. The simply are all brain washed. Very few of them have the capacity, will, strength or capability of existing and thinking for themselves. The devil concept as well as hell was derived by catholics for the purpose of intimidation and fear. Studys and reaserch have shown that early christians didnt believe in hell. Interesting huh? The bible has been corrupted, mistranslated, and rewritten through out the years and isnt a realiable source of guidance. I dont think its right to bar women from religious service because 2000 years ago men were the only ones capable of feeding their familys.
blessed be,
nate
Also about the witchcraft, I find it funny to ask them were Holy Water comes from? "O you mean a bunch of priests gather around it and pray over it" Hum! sounds familiar. Or how does the wine and cracker turn into the body and blood of Christ? At that point I usually say "see you and your church have a little witch in you also". I also love it when they ask me to go to church which I reply "I will as soon as you show me the word Church in the bible". No one has found it yet. he he Don't get me wrong though there are many christians that I consider good friends that don't push or judge, only except. Though they are few.
I don't know what to add, except to say the obvious is in front of all of us, so close we can smell it, and it's been posted all over, not only in this Forum, but my own as well that I myself admin, and the others that I belong as well.

Darling, there will always be religious intolerance. Looking back as far as 1692, a number that is as infamous as 9/11, will stick in the mins and thouts of witches, Wiccans, and pagans all over for millenia. Perhaps one day...perhaps there be a frorm of tolerance to different religious fredom, but I think it will be a form of "political correctness", not true tolerance. True, we have passed milestones to see this day, a black president, women vice president nominees, and many other such events I thought I may never see in my lifetime, well here I am.

But even in such a historc "victory" for the world, there is still intolerance. Racial, sexual, political, and religious. And to a degree, I believe there there will ALWAYS be a level of such intolerance, based on ignrance.
Like Torey mentioned, such ignorance leads to otherwise loving, God fearing (another concept of Christiantiy I can't wrap my head around) will whip their head around, point, and accuse. Brand. Brurn. Label. Destroy. Generally, what we don't know of, we fear. And the fight or flight response kicks in. So we gather our resources, those who feel the same, and by doing this, it makes us feel superior.

Once I have educated a few people, even if it is just a few, the word spreads. Ance the ball starts rolling, it keeps rolling.
But it is up to us. Kids, there are so many out there, fighting the "Good Fight" for US, and here we are on forums whining about it. Lets take a breath, step back, and be proactive. Start talking to people about it. If you wind up with a fanantic, with them well, and MOVE ON. Keep going. You know in your heart what you are doing is good, well...so does the "other side". Only when we come together can we make progress. But it must start somewhere. I am doing this on a full time basis, whenever I can. Try doing the same.

And there are those Christians that believe individuals like us will go to Hell, if we are not "Saved" by the blood of Jesus. Gods above and below, and they talk of US being the savages, and the sacrifices, and burn our books, CHILRENS books, yet we hear and read constantly about the bloody and gory cruxifiction of Jesus, and how Mary Magdelene collected his blood in cup, and these islamic tradions of stoning people to death, I mean...think about it. WHO is the true savage barbarian, here? Or in a more appropriate phrase, "isn't THAT the pot calling the kettle black!"
So many reasons. Old hates, old beliefs, money. They are all reasons why one religious person will have the concept that they are better than another person. It is just the way it is.. but at least we are not being burned at the stake or hanged enmass anymore. There will always be prejudice and hatred in this world.. however.. we can rise above that by being true to ourselves and our Goddess. By being peacemakers rather than hate mongers, we set ourselves apart.
They know not what they DO! they belive that they are the truth and the only truth. Sad to be a one way minded person. Grow and learn. A true statement is seek and you shall find. Now go and grow with the earth mother and become anew. White wolf
I was a Christian for many years. In general, Christians believe everybody is a sinner. The honest ones will admit that even Christians are sinners.

There are many different types of Christian groups, some more open to different faiths than others. In my Baptist Period, I was taught that the worship of anything other than Jesus is ultimately the worship of Satan. There is even a verse in the Bible that says the spiritual power behind Paganism is demonic (in one of the Corinthians I think)

Many Christians are taught that one cannot be truly moral without the "Holy Spirit" indwelling them. I'm involved in an interfaith jail ministry here locally and have run into Christians who simply can't understand how one can possibly minister without Jesus. Most of these people are sincerely trying to follow their faith. They've just been taught that there is no other way to do it, and most have never known folks of other paths well enough to understand that other forms of spirituality can be just as valid.

Many are simply scared of us. They hear words like Witch or Pagan and think of the stories they've heard growing up and all the things they've seen in the movies and on TV. There are a few unscrupulous Christian who capitalize on those fears and write books about the demonic aspects of Wicca. Most folks simply believe what they read because they've never had reason to question it. And because they've been taught that it's evil, they fear to look too deeply into the subject.
Many Christians do shun those who are not followers of Jesus and that is one reason I have to hide beign Pagan from most of my family.

However there are some that agree with my the of "I respect you if you respect me, I won't try to convert you if you don't try to convert me," I have no problem with Any faith as long as they have no problem with me and do their best to do no harm.
Tolerence is key but the problem is that so many ministers, priests, ect. teach non-tolerence. It is a shame and makes me angery but that is why I am no longer a Christian.

Much Love
