Wicca Wiccans Pagans and Free Souls.. live different.. be Neopagan!

Hey guys-

Trying to be delicate here. Gotta ask. Do Wicca or any of the other neopagan religions have any opinions on being pagan and carrying a firearm?? Question came up because an old friend of mine is...shall we say...fascinated by guns. He claims that he is Wiccan. But as I understand it in some pagan circles guns are taboo unless used in occupational situation {competition shooting, hunting, military, law enforcement etc} because a gun is supposed to be an instrument of death. I don't have an opinion on this. But I would love some input.

Well you can always use them for a cauldron decoration @ sabbats..along with a hanging wine skin & a dead Mallard, that'd be good!

I think it's all about your personal preference. I personally like guns and think of them as a tool my ancestors probably used to get food. But, I also believe that if you kill an animal you should respect the life of the animal by using every part of it. In that light you could see a gun in the same way as a bow and arrow. They have essentially the same purpose.

I must suppose it depends on the individual. Does someone who lives by the rede of "an it harm none" become a martial artist? Does swatting a mosquito or plucking a flower make one unworthy of claiming to be spiritual? I believe that a Wiccan should use any tool they need, even if it could be a weapon.

I feel very strongly about this subject. I believe that the gun and all weapons at this time in human history are contra-creation. The meaning of harmlessness is exactly this, do not take up something that can destroy.  How can you ever say that the gun is not of destruction?.  An instrument brought forth by man thru his will through unnatural force used  to maim and destroy is contra creationism; all Wiccans in Gaia know this as truth. First do no harm, and do as you would will.

Hmmm....

Was that Hmmm.... the sound of a mosquito? just kidding.. I swat mosquitos at times, they carry disease which I don't want in my body or in the bodies of my family. But for a mosquito to live they must drink blood, it's a necessary part of their continuance. What do human beings really need to live? and can we think before we kill? I know we can. If we kill without thought, we are an insect, and in many ways when we do kill, they the insects become higher than us; because of our intentions and  we do have options which they do not.  Do no harm, the gun is nothing but of harm, brought forth by man.Be of the Creative, and do not take up a gun for any reason. Blessed Be. laurel.

Having and carrying one? Go ahead.

Got a job using one? (nonmilitary) Go ahead.

Got a job in the military? Well... We can get back to that in a second

Got a job hunting animals? Well you can't be wiccan then.

Back to the military.

If you read the Rede it does say you should look out for threefold.

My only problem is that when people were hunter gatherers people used to kill animals for food, I have the view that if you have to fight, you don't overdo it. If you have to kill, you don't make them suffer.

The military is to protect us from those who don't accept our ways and wish to change them and to some respect we need to defend ourselves. The moment may come where you have to kill while being wiccan but if you don't make a fuss about it, get it over with and try to make up for it after.

No one should need to suffer for more than is necessary, if you have prisoners of war they should be treated justly.

But self defence is normally ok if you did what you could before hand to avoid the worst outcome.

Most people here who are wiccan or similar probably eat products made from animals, does this mean they played a part in paying people to kill those animals?

If you don't cause unnecessary suffering then I believe to some extent that killing during a war is mostly overlooked as long as the person tries to make up for it.

The butterfly effect could be used that if you use transport you are causing global warming meaning you are hurting people, or that if you don't give all your money to charity that you didn't save a person's life.

So I believe more "do what you can without suffering before limiting how much you make" because I know I'm always gonna make someone unhappy in life, does that mean I have to attone for everything?

As long as I don't cause people too much suffering or if I can find a way to limit or help people's suffering then I make up for it.

In an ideal world no one should suffer but as people have to it's best to try and limit what they do suffer.

The military, no matter what country or banner who they serve under is a collective of those who seek power, and they are not of meekness or HARMLESSNESS, and the way of killing for whatever reason LIMITS your consciousness, it DULLS it. We as human beings are meant to be of harmlessness, it is the truth of the Goddess and of Wiccan. BLESSED BE.

I didn't mean it in the case of "kill everyone we can". I meant it in a "if we can avoid hurting or killing it is better but if they are suffering what else can we do?"

Is it better to let them bleed to death from multiple gun shots to the chest or to reduce their suffering?

Like euthanasia.

I don't agree with guns but the world uses them, in this respect I can't exactly get all countries to stop using them but what we can do is save who it is possible to save and let people live with the least amount of suffering.

I don't really have a conscience because I believe everything is a perspective and not one is correct, the general consensus is the evaluation of the majority's opinions meaning the rich will always decide the rules.

I follow the rede because I chose to as I agree in my perspective that people should never need to suffer and its up to everyone to deal with those problems.

I've responded to this question before, but I would like to add something. Do you know where the term FIREARM comes from? It is of the native people of 'America'  What the native HUMAN BEINGS called their land who knows, for they were destroyed by the way of the War Path. FIRE- ARM, consider the name, fire coming from your hand. The gun was seen as lightening, the source of FIRE that human beings could never fight. The gun, the firearm is of the War Path, and is of CONTRA- CREATION, and how can you say otherwise?

I don't think owning one or not owning has anything to do with a particular belief system. What you do with it is a different story. A gun has saved many a life, but if it's not for you, than don't own one.

Your right it probably would depend on the group. A gun is a gun, it shoots and makes holes in bodies. For me it has no real affect on religious believe you can be what ever you want and still have a gun.
