Is Global Warming Really Happening?
I've talked to many people and read many articles on this topic. I have a friend who is an Emmy Award winning Weatherwoman. The debate seems to drill down to an argument about WHY this is happening, in order to best determine strategy to avoid disasters in low-lying coastal areas.
Before I go into the topic at more length, here is a recent link from Scientific American on-line which showcased this....
It seems evident and clear to me that - for whatever reason - the seas and oceans are gaining in size and volume, creating an absolute need to determine some impact in the next 10, 20, 30 , 50 years and take some action to help those in coastal regions who would be affected.
Additionally, I believe the debate about the additional methods needed to counteract this global warming needs to continue until some sort of resolution - regardless if part of the answer is that nature is cyclical and these changes are natural or not - because we need to know if we as humans are contributing and thus exacerbating the problem.

This is a topic that I have spent much time pondering, and I have reached a conclusion, but it is not the politically correct one.
Firstly, one must step back from the immediacy of any situation in order to be able to see it clearly.
Variations in solar output have been the cause of past climate changes (see attached photo of a solar flare compared with the size of our planet). During the the span of years modern climatologists term the "Medieval Warm Period" AD 800-1300, temperatures were significantly warmer than previously, causing a number of interesting phenomena. Among others:
1. Ice melt in the North Atlantic enabled the Vikings to get across safely to Greenland, Iceland, and North America. Hooray for Thor!
2. Thriving vinyards were established in areas in Britain and Gaul that previously were not warm enough for wine grapes (using AD 800 agricultural methods and technology).
3. The surface temperature of the North Atlantic was approximately 1 degree warmer than today.
Right after the so-called "Medieval Warm Period" came a period of cooling modern climatologists call the "Little Ice Age." This period covered the period roughly from AD 1300-1850 (right up to the advent of the so-called "Industrial Revolution"). During this period, for instance, the river Thames in Britain would freeze over, and Winter festivals would be held on the ice. The Baltic Sea would freeze also, allowing for sledge transit between Poland and Sweden. The fact that this type of climate has shaped human thought and human culture for the last 500 years leading up to the so-called "modern period" probably more than anything contributes to the fact that people today think of the world as a much warmer place than "back in the day."
Of course, in the big picture, (assuming you respect the current "scientific" ideas about the age of the planet), the entire course of human history is nothing more than a brief warming trend in an overall ice age lasting several millennia. If you buy into the geologists' theories, the time of the dragons (so-called "dinosaurs") was much, much warmer worldwide (of course, the known continents were then joined), with a lush "greenhouse" climate covering much of the earth.
Please keep in mind that there are several "gaps" in what modern science wants to admit, or wants you to know.
Both David Icke and Stewart Swerdlow insist that "global warming" is a panic strategy designed to keep the populace in a terrorized state.
The current global warming propaganda scare is being hyped by politicians and special interests such as Goldman Sachs and other Wall Street financial firms that stand to reap billions trading new carbon credit financial futures (rense.com).
Icke calls this the "Carbon Con," and insists that solar activity is the cause of recent warming (ie, since the "Little Ice Age"). He further states that politicians such as Al Gore stand to make zillions (and already have) through their affiliation with firms that broker environmental credits. While acknowledging that the "carbon con" is a scam, Icke is hesitant to raise his voice too loudly against it, as any effort to improve the world's (currently lousy) air quality will only benefit humanity (less smog, air pollution, etc.)
(ask yourself also why affordable, environmentally-friendly cars such as the Tata Nano exist, but are not permitted to be sold in the US)
Swerdlow, in a recent trip to Europe, noted from his plane that ice covered Newfoundland, with no open water visible. He told internet talk show host Debbie Kiley (Debbie Your Show) that snow levels in Antarctica were at record highs. He also claims that the "swine flu" panic to be a similar type of manipulation. Weather modification experiments on the part military forces controlled by the global Shadow Government (popularly called "the Illuminati," although this is a misnomer) have affected world weather patterns lately (tsunami in Asia, Hurricane Katrina).
Despite all of this, I still believe that environmental credits are a good idea, that polluters and other multinationals that ravage the natural landscape need to be brought into check, and, like Icke, that ANY effort to reduce the number of toxins in the atmosphere or pollution overall should be lauded and supported. As pagans it is our sacred duty to safeguard the health of the planet and ensure that a viable ecosphere exists for our grandchildren.
But global panic only plays into the hands of the oppressors.

In which field are you a doctor?
Whether or not Antarctica has gotten more snow lately does not contradict the fact that glaciers all over the world are shrinking. I think there is one in Patagonia that is growing; this is an anomaly worth studying.
Sure the Earth was much warmer during the Devonian and Cretaceous periods. Living things were adapted to this. Animals and insects find it difficult to survive a sudden change in climate. This usually produces a mass dying off followed by new species emerging on a geologic time scale. The Earth has survived, I believe, 5 major extinctions and dozens of smaller episodes of mass extinction.
We humans have become gods compared to the animal kingdom. We are the stewards of the planet, and we must be responsible.
The moment you start talking about shadow governments marks you as a paranoiac to me. What a wonderful way to distract people from paying attention to the real issues.

This is an ad hominem statement, and doesn't actually dispute my position, nor does your questioning of my credentials. I may be paranoid, and my title may be in dispute, but you have to debate my stance, not my background. I could be completely wacko, but still present a valid argument. Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.
If you're going to use statemtents like this, you might as well throw in "The moment you start talking about magick and witchcraft marks you as a devil-worshipper to me," or, "The moment you start talking about global warming and climate change marks you as an eco-terrorist to me." You see my pointy?

According to the missives above, I have been "marked" as a paranoiac. Hmm. . .I wonder which mark it could be. Seem to remember that in the Burning Times, witches were stripped down by Sprenger, Kramer, and other torturers, who were searching for a "devil's mark" somewhere on their bodies.
Do paranoiacs now carry similar marks on their corpses? Without which we may perform no commerce, or pay hazing taxes to the shadow government? Maybe on the scalp, I think I'll pull a LaVey and shave me dome. Ah, there it is, "PPP" (stands for "Paranoid, Polluted, and Poopy", I bet).
Ok, ok, seriously folks, in the mirror, I see literally dozens of freckles, moles, zits, scars, and other "marks." Now...where'd I put that good sharp needle?

I totally believe that global warming is happening... As a matter of fact, I just did an assignment about it in my Cinema Class less than two weeks ago. We had to watch An Inconvenient truth with Al Gore. As many times as people say that he exaggerates, I truly believe that he knows what he is talking about.

A lot of global warming related articles and news posts seem to rush ideas making it seem like something is going to happen 'today' or 'right now'. I think that media has blown global warming out of proportion just like swine flu, and malaria, and west nile, and killer bees. Few of the related articles are actually for awareness. Reader interest and numbers, sales, are more important in today's society unfortunately than accurate information. I will not be swayed by any of this until temperatures and weather reports are away from what is called the yearly average. The temperatures of all areas are within the average high and the average low. Not much is different in storm season either other than there unfortunately have been a couple in more populated areas.

Weather in Michigan has been much colder than normal this year, by about 4-10 degrees; Starhawk, someone whom I respect highly as a person and as a Witch, is clearly convinced that global warming is a "real" phenomenon, and dangerous. One of the consequences she points out in her book, The Earth Path, she points out that we really can't determine how climate changes are going to affect our weather, which is in keeping with Chaos theory. She states that, for instance, changes to the Gulf Stream may actually make some parts of the world colder. I still find the "global warming" hypothesis difficult to accept whole cloth.
I agree with Anna Azuren that the media is not trustworthy. Sensational news (that is to say, "the sky is falling") is what they specialize in. (you might as well add "terror threats," "orange alerts," etc. to your list of skyfalls. You must understand that the media is controlled by the same PNAC individuals that have been overtly running the show during the Cheney/Bush tyranny, and are still pulling many of the strings from behind the scenes--and/or their cronies, such as Rupert Murdoch) .
Government/US Military/Black Ops weather manipulation is a largely unrecognized source of many events that popularly are blamed on "global warming" (Katrina, recent deluge in the Phillipines, etc.). The public doesn't want to believe that weather control is possible, and, evidently, neither do some of our wisest spokeswitches (Starhawk, in her The Earth Path, claimed that it is impossible something as large as the weather to be influenced by magick/intent. George Noory's weather experiments tend to disprove this. There is no doubt that the earth is warming. Methane,a more powerful greenhouse gas, is emitted in very large numbers from cattle. The factoid I heard yesterday was that cattle contribute methane to the atmosphere greater than the amount of CO2 produced by the entire transportation sector. As of now I am eating less beef and will try to decrease my consumption of dairy products as well.
There is one variable that cannot be put into the equation, and that is the size and number of volcanic eruptions. You're probably familiar with the explosion of Krakatoa about 1815. The summer of 1816 in New England was the summer without any warmth. It snowed in every month and the temperatures were winter temperatures. Next year was a normal one for New England.
It was the sulfur dioxide and the ash from the explosion that cooled the planet so rapidly.
Yesterday on a news video I found on Yahoo the author of a book about global warming says there already is a very inexpensive way to reverse global warming, and that is by adding a constant stream of sulfur dioxide into the upper atmosphere.
We could do this today as an experiment to see if it works. The author said about controlling CO2 that it is already too late. People should reduce CO2 output any way, and invest in clean energy. If his facts were right his logic was convincing.
